To extinguish a candle, dip the wick into the liquid wax, using a non-flammable instrument such as our Wick Dipper. This technique also helps eliminate smoking.
Burn candles away from drafts. A draft will cause your candle to burn unevenly and smoke.
Discontinue use of candle when 1/2 inch wax remains in bottom of container.
Never burn candles unattended: Even though this sounds like just common sense, it is quite easy to forget a candle has been left burning.
Always protect your candle from debris of any kind. Candles with carbon deposits and other material are less likely to burn evenly.
Burn your candle on a heat resistant surface, such as a candle holder or stove top.
Burn your candle for at least 3-4 hours each burn to promote even burning.
 
What are Cherokee Scents' shipping options?
Most orders ship within 2 business days. When you place an order, your primary shipping option is UPS Standard Ground. If you choose Standard Ground, your package should arrive within 3-8 business days. We also have USPS (United States Postal Service) Parcel Post available. USPS must be used for us to be able to ship to P.O. boxes; however, USPS should only be selected when necessary, as it is slower, less reliable (more breakage) and more expensive than UPS. Cherokeescents.com will only use USPS Parcel Post when necessary to deliver to a PO Box, regardless of the shipping option chosen on the order. We will only process orders to zip codes that UPS delivers to, even if USPS is ultimately used, since our shipping charges are all based on real-time UPS price quotes. See the shipping pricing section of this page for more info.
 
How long will it take to receive my order?
Our standard process is to ship orders within 2-3 business days after receiving your order (orders which include limited stock, discontinued, quantities > 3, or special order items may take longer). "Business days" are Monday through Friday excluding holidays and days on which our shipping department is closed as indicated on the website. As an example, if you place an order by 5:00 p.m. mountain time on Tuesday, we will generally ship the order by Thursday (2 business days). For orders within the continental U.S., the UPS "in-transit" time is generally 3-6 business days from the date the order ships (not the date you place the order). Note that orders shipping via USPS (the post office) will take longer to process and ship. Thus, from the date you place your order, you will generally receive it within 5-9 business days after placing the order. Also, during the holiday season (especially October, November and December) the factory's turn-around time on our orders stretches out to 2-3 weeks, so we are not always able to meet our 2 business day target during the holiday season.
 
What if I order something that isn't in stock?
At Cherokee Scents we strive to carry plenty of stock so that we can ship your candles to you as quickly as possible. On occasion we don't have all of the items in stock you may have ordered. Normally in this situation we will ship as much of your order as possible, and backorder the remaining items. If your order contains items which we normally stock and for which you have ordered 3 or less of any single item, then at our discretion we will pay the additional shipping cost of shipping the backordered items. This offer only applies to orders shipped via UPS; orders with backorders of any type which use the USPS shipping option will be held until all items are available. During the holiday season, we will ship short at our discretion if an otherwise shippable order will be delayed by more than a week waiting for "regular" items we normally carry in stock.
However, there are some items which are not normally stocked or for which limited stock is held. These items can be special ordered from the factory and will generally ship within 2-4 weeks. An order that contains more than 3 of a single item is considered a "special order" if we don't have enough of that item on hand to immediately fill the order. Orders that include limited stock or special order items or more than 3 of a single item (more than 1 of a given accessory or holder, or more than 2 of a given holiday votive or combo pack) may be held until all items can be shipped together. Please note that the entire order may be held up waiting for limited stock items! If you don't want the shipping of in-stock items on your order delayed by limited stock items, submit separate orders. All of the limited stock items are noted as such on the website.
If you have a "drop dead" date (such as a birthday, etc.) by which you need to receive your order, please indicate that date in the "special instructions" field of the order form. We will do what we can to make that date, or if we know we can't make it, we will advise you such that you can use an alternate source for that order so that your delivery needs can be met.

Why are Cherokee Scents Candles so fragrant and aromatic?
The fragrance of a scented candle comes from scented oil which is mixed with the candle's wax. The more oil used in a candle, the stronger its scent. However, since the scented oil is the most expensive ingredient of the candle, lower quality candles tend to skimp on the amount of scented oil they use. Also, Cherokee Scents Candles are manufactured using exclusive ingredients and processes which better separate the scented oils from the wax at burn time, further enhancing the aroma.
 
Does Cherokee Scents charge sales tax?
We collect 7.375% state sales tax on all orders shipped within Nevada. We do not collect sales tax on shipments to any other states.
 
What is Cherokee Scents' refund/exchange policy?
Candles may be returned to Cherokee Scents for refund or exchange if the following requirements are met:
  • candles were not limited stock, discontinued, special-ordered or clearance items,
  • candles are in "like new" condition and have not been burned,
  • combination packs are still in their shrink-wrap,
  • you contact us within 7 days of receipt to let us know you are making a return,
  • candles are received by Cherokee Scents within 14 days of receipt.
Customer pays shipping charges to return candles to Cherokee Scents. In the case of exchanges, customer will also pay shipping cost of replacement candles. Since Cherokee Scents cannot be responsible for damage incurred during return shipping, we highly recommend that you insure your shipment. UPS automatically insures packages for $100, and the USPS insures packages for $50 for a small fee. Ship candles for refund or exchange to the address shown on the "contact us" page.
If an order has not been processed yet (candles pulled, credit card charged, special orders placed, etc.), orders can be cancelled without any cost to the customer. If an order has been processed but not yet shipped, an order can still be cancelled; however, processing costs will be deducted from the order total before refunding the customer's credit card. For all orders, a 5% processing charge will be assessed on the order's grand total. In addition, limited stock items and special orders will incur a restocking fee of 20% of the item's price, and discontinued items will incur a restocking fee of 50% of the item's price. Cancellations and subsequent refunds of individual items on an order will incur a 5% processing charge on the amount to be refunded, with a minimum of 50 cents processing charge.
Cherokee Scents Candles are usually hand poured, handmade candles. Most Cherokee Scents Candle accessories are also hand made. For this reason, slight aesthetic imperfections occasionally exist in the candles and accessories. Also, due to the high concentration of scented oils in the candles, droplets of oil may collect on the candle or between the wax and the glass jar. This is normal. We will not refund or exchange candles or accessories for aesthetic or cosmetic imperfections. If these imperfections bother you, the candles can be carefully remelted in your oven set to its lowest temperature setting in order to remix the wax and oil, reseat the wax against the glass jar, etc.
 
Do you have a catalog?
Due to the constantly changing nature of our various product lines, we do not put together a hard-copy catalog. The website itself is the product catalog.

When are credit cards charged for an order?
Your credit card is charged just before we begin pulling candles and packing your order, usually 1-2 business days before the order actually ships with UPS. In the case of special orders, your credit card is charged when the special order is placed with the factory. Orders that include limited stock, discontinued or special order items are held until all items can be shipped together. If you don't want the shipping of in-stock items on your order delayed by limited stock, discontinued or special order items, submit separate orders.
 
Are credit card transactions safe?
Many consumers are uncomfortable giving out their credit card numbers to Internet retailers. However, with companies such as Cherokee Scents that take proper security measures, using a credit card over the Internet can be much safer than using it at your local store or over the phone. Cherokee Scents' Secure Checkouts use state-of-the-art technology to make sure that your Internet transaction is as safe as possible. With SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol, your credit card number is encrypted ("scrambled") during transmission using public key encryption technology. This means that anyone trying to intercept the message will be unable to crack the code. It is important to note, however, that there are a few browsers that do not support SSL protocol. If you have one of these browsers you may be able to contact the software provider for an upgrade or simply download the latest browser from their website. If this option is not available to you, you may still order online through our standard checkout without the SSL protocol.
 
What are cookies?
"Cookies" are small files that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. Our cookies do not contain any personally identifying information. Two types of cookies are used by our shopping cart system. The first cookie type stores your customer ID which was generated the last time you completed an order. This ID can then be used link into our database on our secure server so that on subsequent orders you do not need to re-enter all of your personal information. Credit card numbers are not stored, however, and so they will always have to be re-entered on subsequent orders from the site. The second type of cookie is called a "session ID." Its purpose is to ensure that your shopping session remains safe by monitoring your activity on the site. If activity ceases for 20 minutes or more, the session "times out" and the contents of your shopping session (including your shopping cart) are cleared.

What should I do if the website doesn't seem to be working?
The first this to do if you suspect an error in the website is to press the "reload" or "refresh" button on your browser. Doing this will cause your browser to verify that the page you are on is the most up to date version of that page on our website. Since browsers "cache" web pages to improve responsiveness, occasionally we may have made an update to a page that your browser has in its cache; hence, the copy in your browsers cache is "stale," or out of sync with the rest of the website. This can cause errors, especially if the stale page is involved in processing your order.
